I've used PathFinder for over a decade. With the current version, 2159, I'm sorry to say that, for me, the same bugs that I reported years ago are still in the product! For example, when I open PathFinder each day, it usually has screwed up the relative dimensions of all the added modules. I then need to take time to get the screen sized correctly again so I can actually see the Preview pane, for example. It also will crash often, or not even crash, but still forget ALL my favorites and modules. I had reported this to the company years ago, but it appears nothing has been done. I tried ForkLift, but it doesn't really compete with the PathFinder features I want and have been using. I will request a refund of the product and revert to version 10.2 where the same bugs were present, but I didn't spend money to just get the same bugs in the "current product" (version 2159). Very disappointed in the overall support response as well. Because of these issues, it's difficult to recommend this product.

Best features of any Mac Finder replacement I've found. Being able to save browser sets and get paths to a file in multiple ways are very useful features. The terminal at the bottom of the screen (where I put it) is cool.

Almost always crashes or the product forgetting my favorites, losing all the added modules, and messing up the relative module dimensions in the parent PathFinder window.

Customer support: 1.0

Really not good. I get obligatory "we're sorry....", but never any plan to fix anything or any kind of window when something will be fixed. This also has not changed in the past decade.

I just tested the more nerdy competitor "Marta" against "Path Finder", which I've been using for years. My personal result is that Path Finder suits me better in many ways. Partly it's because Marta is still not matured enough (it's just on version 0.8.2) – partly it's simply not matching my modus operandi. Maybe I will test it again after some time has passed. Way back in time I tested ForkLift (a matured v2 version) against Path Finder, which also (at that time) had some flaws I could not live with. As a result I decided for Path Finder, which for me is a 4 stars application.

Company has gone bad. I emailed sales support three times last to cancel my subscription and they did not. Now I have just received an email letting me know that my subscription will renew later in the week. I cannot can el because I no longer have the app. Support still refuses to acknowledge my emails. I am thinking about contacting my lawyer. Used to be a great company. No longer.....

Forget PF. Any of these are excellent: "Commander One" (FREE), ForkLift, muCommander, Nimble Commander...and some more.

I was surprised today when I was presented with "this license for version 10 has expired", while starting the application. There are so many file management software today on the market, and far better than PF, and without "subscription" scheme, to choose which one to use is a piece of cake. Every day a new file management application coming to Macupdate. Pathfinder and those who are on "subscription" band wagon are losers.

I recently decided to compare Path Finder and Forklift. I love the features of Path Finder, but it's just way too buggy – especially if you use the Quit Finder and use Path Finder as the file handler features. In the end, I went with Forklift. It has fewer features and cannot completely replace the Finder as the default file handler as easily as Path Finder, but is stable and still offers a perpetual license option (you get a year of updates, but you can keep using that version until it no longer runs - then pay again when and if you want updates.)
